Teenager brain damaged after Cervarix vaccine injection

After having a Cervarix injection, Stacey Jones, 17 got an epileptic seizure. Cervarix vaccine is being offered to all schoolgirls in the UK under a Government programme.
Cervarix is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, and is a vaccine against certain types of cancer causing human papillomavirus (HPV). An alternative product, from Merck, is known as Gardasil.

During the following week she had 17 more epileptic seizure which caused her such severe brain damage that she had to be put in to a rehabilitation unit, which is helping her to relearn basic tasks like making a sandwich.

Her parents from Bilston in the West Midlands, are convinced that the vaccination caused the swelling of the brain, which has been diagnosed as the cause of her neurological problems.

The parents Julie and Kerry Jones say that as a result, their "happy-go-lucky" girl became paranoid and violent, and left the whole family in despair.

Safety watchdogs and drug manufacturers insist there is no evidence to suggest the vaccine carries long term side effects, and says that in cases such as Stacey's, the timing of the onset of illness after a jab would be mere coincidence.

Doctors says that the epilepsy was caused by a swelling of the brain, but the family has been given no explanation why her brain swelled, and the insist that an investigation must be done.
